Victim Resources

A safer Alabama requires supporting the people most impacted by crime: victims, survivors, and families. The Alabama Prison Reform Proposal strengthens safety, transparency, accountability, and community healing by building dedicated structures to meet their needs.

Victims Support App

The Victims Support App is a secure, trauma-informed platform that gives victims and families immediate access to help, clear information about their rights and case updates, and optional tools for support and healing. Built around choice and privacy, the app allows users to engage on their own terms—without pressure, judgment, or data sharing without consent.

Victim Advisory Board

A statewide Victim Advisory Board ensures that survivors have a direct voice in shaping reforms.

Purpose:

  • Guide victim safety and needs

  • Review policies affecting victim communication and restitution

  • Ensure survivors are represented in all phases of reform

  • Build trust between victims, families, and the justice system

  • Why it matters:

    • When victims are heard, safety improves, and community confidence grows.

Restitution Pathways

The proposal introduces ethical, structured pathways for restitution—centered on accountability, not punishment.

Key components:

  • Restitution plans tied to job training and fair-wage work programs

  • Transparent tracking so victims can see when restitution is paid

  • Financial literacy support to help individuals follow through

  • Options for restorative meetings (when requested by victims)

  • Why it matters:

    • Accountability should create healing, not hardship — and victims deserve timely, meaningful restitution.
